House of Charity Partnership with Premier Housing Management Aims to End Homelessness

Minneapolis, MN—November 17, 2015—House of Charity is pleased to announce a new partnership with Premier Housing Management, a full-service real estate company, effective November 1. House of Charity will become the case management service provider for two of Premier Housing Management’s permanent supportive housing apartments, an 11 unit complex located in North Minneapolis serving single adult men and an 8 unit complex in St. Paul serving single adult women.

With a mutual goal to end homelessness in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area, House of Charity and Premier Housing Management believe the solution is Permanent Supportive Housing. Safe, affordable, community-based housing, Permanent Supportive Housing provides people with long histories of homelessness with the rights of tenancy and resources for voluntary and flexible support services.

“Permanent Supportive Housing is a proven, effective means of reintegrating chronically homeless and highly vulnerable homeless families into the community by addressing basic housing needs and providing ongoing support,” said Bert Winkel, Executive Director for House of Charity. “We believe the combination of housing and supportive services creates a synergy that allows tenants to take the necessary steps toward recovery and independence.”

According to research from the Corporation for Supportive Housing, supportive housing helps people in need live more stable and productive lives. Approximately 93 percent of House of Charity’s Permanent Supportive Housing clients have remained housed after one year in the program. Additionally, supportive housing provides significant cost savings to public systems, resulting in decreased use of homeless shelters, hospitals, emergency rooms, jails and prisons. Supportive housing also benefits communities by improving safety and property infrastructure.

“We are delighted to partner with Premier Housing Management to provide essential case management services for their residents. With the ability to address each person’s barriers to maintaining housing, we can help more people become independent and live healthy, stable lives,” added Winkel. “When a person is placed into permanent supportive housing it opens up a bed in transitional housing, which opens up a bed at a homeless shelter, which then takes one more person off street.”
